This theme of this edition of APABI Focus is “international cooperation,” reflecting the cross-national nature of the most important trends affecting the banking sector.

International cooperation occurs on several levels, from regulatory coordination to industry collaboration, as well as knowledge exchange among training institutes. Below, in our Insights section, you will find information on all these themes.

Financial literacy education is one particular for of international training cooperation among several of our institutes. On the part of the APABI Secretariat, TABF has recently established a Financial Education Department, which aims to broaden the scope of inclusion beyond mere access to services. Our member interviews with Pakistan and Sri Lanka also introduce the related work of organizations in those respective countries.

I would like to remind members about the upcoming annual meeting. The dates have been confirmed for November 13-15 in Mumbai, India. The three days will include the APABI board meeting, conference, and sightseeing. In anticipation of November, meanwhile, I hope that everyone is acquainted with GIFT City. Located in the same part of India as Mumbai, it is fashioned as India’s answer to Hong Kong, and poised to play an important role in the future of Indian finance. You can read more about its history and purpose below.

I look forward to seeing everyone later this year!

Sincerely,

David Stinson
