Successful Conclusion of the 2024 APABI Biennial Program

Dear APABI Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2024 APABI Biennial Program, held from November 13-15 in Mumbai, India. Hosted by the Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF), this year’s conference brought together 12 member countries—Bhutan (FITI), Cambodia (IBFKH), Hong Kong (HKIB), Malaysia (AICB), Mongolia (BFA), Nepal (NBI), the Philippines (BAIPHIL), South Korea (KBI), Taiwan (TABF), Vietnam (BAV), along with Secretary-General Alastair Graham from GBESTB, and virtually, Pakistan (NIBAF). This gathering exemplified the spirit of collaboration and knowledge sharing that is core to APABI.

The program kicked off with the APABI Executive Meeting, where we were delighted to welcome the Banking Academy of Vietnam (BAV) as our newest member. The meeting included insightful country reports, sparking valuable exchanges of best practices. The Secretariat also provided updates on the APABI FOCUS quarterly newsletter, discussed key initiatives for 2025—such as the proposed 2nd APABI Virtual Roundtable and upcoming member surveys—and announced that Cambodia-IBFKH is tentatively selected as the host for the 2026 APABI program. Governance enhancements were also discussed, aimed at strengthening our network’s impact and collaboration.

The second day of the conference, centered on the theme “Paradigm Shift in Banking – Moving Towards a Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Model,” focused on pressing topics such as digital transformation, climate change, sustainable finance, financial inclusivity, and data-driven banking. Dynamic discussions and presentations from member institutes, including HKIB, IBFKH, BAIPHIL, IIBF, and TABF, as well as insights from global thought leaders, provided actionable strategies to help members navigate the evolving banking landscape.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to IIBF for their exceptional efforts in organizing this event and to all participants for their valuable contributions. This Biennial Program reinforced the importance of international cooperation in addressing both current and future challenges within the global banking sector. We look forward to continuing our collective work towards a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.

Sincerely,
APABI Secretariat at TABF
