Md. Ezazul Islam

Dr. Md. Ezazul Islam is the Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and a distinguished central banker, economist, and researcher with more than three decades of experience in monetary policy, macroeconomic analysis, financial sector development, and central banking. He previously served as Executive Director (Research), Grade-1 of Bangladesh Bank, where he played a key role in the formulation and implementation of monetary and exchange-rate policies, including modernization initiatives such as the interest-rate corridor, streamlined liquidity management, and the crawling exchange-rate regime. He also served as an active member of the Monetary Policy Committee and various auction committees related to treasury bills, bonds, and foreign exchange market operations.
Dr. Islam earned his PhD in Economics from Jahangirnagar University with research on the monetary transmission mechanism and monetary policy in Bangladesh. Over the years, he has authored numerous research articles, policy notes, and working papers on monetary policy, inflation, financial inclusion, exchange-rate dynamics, and financial stability. Recognized with the Bangladesh Bank Employees’ Recognition Gold Medal for excellence in economic policy research, he continues to contribute actively to regional and international policy dialogues. As a Board Member of APABI, Dr. Islam brings extensive expertise in banking research, policy formulation, and institutional development to strengthen cooperation and knowledge-sharing among banking and financial institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.
